Of Prayer and Polity

In a few days Katharine and I leave for Anaheim California where we will attend the seventy-sixth General Convention of the Episcopal Church. I am one of four clerical deputies representing the Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast in the House of Deputies. Even though the Episcopal Church is relatively small compared to other denominations, the General Convention is the largest legislative body in the world. There are some 850 members of the House of Deputies, comprised of clergy and lay, four of each from each diocese; and there are some 200 plus members of the House of Bishops, active and retired. So when the Church speaks, it speaks from a broad and diverse base.  More...

Calling all ‘old’ (i.e., long-time) parishioners!

The Centennial Committee is looking for old, early (pre-digital) photos of All Saints — the building, people, activities — for a photo presentation during our 100th Anniversary Celebration on November 1. If you have anything you think might be suitable and are willing to share or donate (shared items will be returned to you), please contact Becky Wilson or Melanie Petithory in the All Saints Archives Office on Tuesdays (438-2492) or call Melanie at home (473-1350).

Two upcoming film nights!

Popcorn Theology will be held again on Sunday, July 12. We begin at 6pm with a light supper, and the movie starts at 6:30 in the Walter K. Smith Room. This month’s movie is Milk, a true story starring Sean Penn in the role of Harvey Milk, California’s first openly gay elected official, and who was assassina-ted because of his activism.

Documenting Justice 2009

The third annual film series of documentaries by students of Stephen Black, director of the Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility at the University of Alabama, will be shown at All Saints by Mobile United’s Race Relations Committee on Sunday, July 19, in the Walter K. Smith Room. The films focus on stories of justice and injustice in Alabama. Supper will be provided at 6pm and the six short document-taries will begin at 6:30.

All are welcome for food, films and discussion!
